Jason Hopkins Named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Reid State Community College

Reid State Community College has announced the hiring of Jason Hopkins as the new Head Men’s Basketball Coach, bringing a proven program‑builder with deep junior‑college roots to lead the Lions into their next era of ACCC and NJCAA competition. Reid State, a growing athletics program within the Alabama Community College Conference, continues to expand its competitive profile as part of its broader institutional growth.

Hopkins arrives at Reid State after serving as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Big Bend Community College, where he engineered one of the most notable turnarounds in the Northwest. Taking over a four‑win program, Hopkins led the Vikings to 7 wins in year one, 10 wins in year two, and 13 wins in year three, establishing a clear upward trajectory built on discipline, player development, and academic accountability.

Before his head‑coaching tenure, Hopkins spent multiple seasons at Cochise College, one of the premier programs in the NJCAA. During his final two years as an assistant, Cochise posted a 58–7 record, went 22–0 in conference play, and finished #11 nationally, while capturing both conference and region championships. His experience under longtime Cochise head coach Jerry Carrillo—one of the most respected program architects in junior‑college basketball—shaped Hopkins’ commitment to building sustainable, long‑term success.

A former junior‑college athlete himself who went on to play Division I basketball at Lipscomb University, Hopkins brings a personal understanding of the JUCO pathway and its impact on student‑athletes. His programs have maintained a 100% sophomore graduation and four‑year placement rate, and his teams at Big Bend achieved a 3.24 cumulative GPA while fundraising at an exceptionally high clip, demonstrating his strength in program management, fundraising, and culture building.

Hopkins is also recognized for his extensive recruiting networks across the country, aligning with Reid State’s continued growth in athletics and its commitment to attracting high‑character student‑athletes. Reid State, a member of the Alabama Community College Conference and the NJCAA, has rapidly expanded its athletic offerings since launching its program in 2022, emphasizing academic achievement, leadership development, and competitive excellence.

“I believe in building a program that can stand the test of time,” Hopkins said. “Reid State has tremendous potential, and I’m excited to establish a culture rooted in discipline, development, and long‑term commitment to our student‑athletes.”

Hopkins will be joined in Evergreen by his lovely wife Jenelyn and their two daughters, Ehlleerose (11) and Jai’el (8). They also have two college aged daughters Abeni (20) and Genesis (20). Genesis plays basketball for Concordia in Irvine California.

Hopkins will begin immediately as the Lions prepare for the upcoming ACCC season.
