Reid State Community College is pleased to welcome Douglas M. Cassell, MA, BS, ATC, LAT, as its new Assistant Athletic Director and Athletic Trainer.

Cassell brings more than 25 years of experience in athletic training, sports medicine, athletic administration, sports information, and higher education. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served student-athletes at the high school, NAIA, NCAA Division I, II, and III, and community college levels, building a reputation for excellence in injury prevention, assessment, rehabilitation, program development, and student-athlete wellness.

Prior to joining Reid State, Cassell served as Director of Athletic Operations and Athletic Trainer at La Lumiere School in Indiana, where he oversaw athletic operations, game-day management, facility maintenance, equipment purchasing, scheduling, and sports medicine services. He has also held athletic training positions at Bethel University, Calumet College of St. Joseph, Purdue University North Central (now Purdue University Northwest), Glenville State College, and numerous high school athletic programs.

Over the course of his career, Cassell has supervised and provided medical coverage for a wide variety of sports, including football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis, golf, cross country, track and field, wrestling, lacrosse, rugby, bowling, competitive dance, and cheerleading. His experience includes developing emergency action plans, implementing electronic medical record systems, managing athletic training facilities, coordinating physician relationships, and mentoring future athletic training professionals.

In addition to his athletic training expertise, Cassell has extensive experience in athletic administration and sports information. He has served in sports information and communications roles, overseeing statistics, media relations, website management, game operations, and event coverage. He has also taught collegiate courses in athletic training, sports health, first response, fitness, and health promotion while developing academic curriculum and helping establish a Sports Health minor at Purdue University North Central.

Cassell earned a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from Marshall University and a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from the University of Charleston. He also holds an Associate of Science in Massage Therapy from Brown Mackie College. He is a Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer, a Licensed Athletic Trainer, CPR/AED Instructor, and holds certifications in Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and Y-Balance Testing.

A longtime member of both the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the Indiana Athletic Trainers' Association, Cassell has been recognized throughout his career for his commitment to student-athlete care and athletic excellence. His honors include being named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2017 and induction into the Purdue Northwest Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016.

At Reid State, Cassell will oversee athletic healthcare services while assisting with departmental operations, student-athlete support, compliance initiatives, and the continued growth of the Lions athletic program.
