Reid State Community College Honors Basketball Standouts During Sophomore Night
Reid State Community College celebrated the final Lions Basketball home games of the season by honoring 11 student-athletes Feb. 16 on Sophomore Night. The annual celebration recognizes graduating athletes on their leadership, academic achievements, and contributions to Lions Athletics.
EVERGREEN, AL – Reid State Community College celebrated the final Lions Basketball home games of the season by honoring 11 student-athletes Feb. 16 on Sophomore Night. The annual celebration recognizes graduating athletes on their leadership, academic achievements, and contributions to Lions Athletics.
“These sophomores have made a tremendous impact on our campus and in our community,” said Brac Brady, Reid State Athletic Director during the ceremony. “They have been foundational to the programs' growth. We are proud to celebrate their dedication to the game and their commitment to their futures.”
The following students were recognized:
Five Women's Basketball sophomores:
· Imani White (#4, Evergreen, AL): A two-time Dean’s List student and Team Captain. White recorded a season-high 27 points this year and plans to study Sports Management at Huntingdon College.
· Aniyah Tucker (#5, Uriah, AL): A member of the inaugural Women’s Basketball Team and current Captain. A Commissioner’s Honor Roll student, she plans to pursue Physical Therapy.
· Kehonia Bradley (#12, Evergreen, AL): A President’s List student and Phi Theta Kappa member. Bradley will transfer to a four-year university to major in Elementary Education.
· Justice Penn (#3, Monroeville, AL): Following her May 8 graduation, Penn will serve in the United States Air Force as an Air Force Control Specialist.
· Taniya Boykin (#13, Monroeville, AL): Averaging 13 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, Boykin will continue her basketball career at a four-year institution while studying Childcare.
Six Men's Basketball sophomores:
· Laithen Mitchell (#2, Augusta, GA): A top-five conference leader in scoring and steals with seven collegiate offers. He plans to commit to a four-year university by late April.
· Harry Gelin (#13, Broward County, FL): The 2024–2025 Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Gelin will pursue a degree in Cybersecurity at a four-year university.
· Christian “CJ” Johnson (#24, Baton Rouge, LA): A Cybersecurity major with aspirations of playing professional basketball.
· Avontree Costic (#10, Excel, AL): An Industrial Maintenance major set to graduate in July 2026.
· Chanon Frye (#12, Clewiston, FL): A General Studies major who plans to continue his athletic and academic career at a four-year school.
· Amari Nealy (#8, Riviera Beach, FL): A Business major aiming to compete at the Division I level next season.
