EVERGREEN, AL – The Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) has officially named Reid State Community College sophomore outfielder Jahyri Coleman the Division II Player of the Week following one of the most dominant offensive stretches in program history.
Over a seven-game span, the Houma, Louisiana native turned the diamond into his personal highlight reel, leading the Lions to a winning record during the first week of competition. Coleman posted an astronomical .833 batting average, going 10-for-12 at the plate and reaching base nearly every time he stepped into the box.
Coleman’s impact was felt most on the base paths, where he accounted for 13 stolen bases, including a relentless performance in the doubleheader sweep of Faulkner University. His ability to create scoring opportunities was further highlighted by his 12 runs scored, serving as the primary engine for a Lions offense that outscored opponents 79-31 over the opening stretch of February.
"Jahyri is a dedicated student-athlete who has shown incredible athletic talent," stated Eric Johnson, Reid State Baseball Head Coach. A Business major and a standout product of Vandebilt Catholic High School, Coleman has quickly transitioned from an All-State high school talent to a premier threat in the ACCC.
Off the field, the sophomore finds balance by focusing on his studies and following his favorite interests, including sports broadcasting and the show Gravity Falls. However, on the field, his focus remains singular: leading the Lions to the top of the conference standings.
Coleman and the Reid State Lions will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming games and look to stay atop the ACCC standings. You can watch all Lions home games at the Poarch Creek Sportsplex. Game times and information can be found at www.rslions.com.
