The event, held Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, in the Edith A. Gray Library, brought together students, athletes, donors and community members for an evening of fellowship and inspiration.
Thompson is widely regarded as one of college baseball’s most respected leaders, known for building programs centered on discipline, integrity and character development. Entering his 11th season leading the Auburn Tigers, he has guided the program to two College World Series appearances and has played a key role in the development of more than 40 MLB draft picks, including No. 1 overall selection Casey Mize.
His remarks focused on leadership principles that resonated with athletes, students and community members. Reid State baseball head coach Eric Johnson and athletics director Brac Brady expressed enthusiasm about the insights Thompson shared as the Lions prepare for their upcoming season in the Alabama Community College Conference.
“This was more than a keynote. It was a challenge to all of us to elevate what we do every day,” Brady said. “Coach Thompson’s message hit home for our players and our staff. His emphasis on effort, accountability and personal growth is exactly what we want Reid State baseball to reflect.”
“We were honored to welcome Coach Thompson to Evergreen for our First Pitch Dinner,” said Dr. Coretta Boykin, president of Reid State Community College. “His proven leadership, commitment to excellence, and dedication to developing young men of integrity align directly with the mission and values of our institution. His message provided meaningful insight for our student-athletes and added significant value to this event and our community.”
The First Pitch Dinner is a key fundraising event supporting the Reid State Lions baseball program, helping provide resources for equipment, travel and facility improvements. Attendees enjoyed a catered meal by Big Mike's Steakhouse along with fellowship and stories from Thompson.
